Move Follows Steep Declines in Newsstand Sales

By Jon Fine

NEW YORK ( -- Ending weeks of speculation, Hearst Magazines will shortly announce Stacy Morrison, the former #2 editor of

\'Redbook\' ad pages have suffered steep declines.
its Marie Claire, will replace Ellen Kunes as editor-in-chief of Redbook.

\"We are thrilled Stacy is coming back to Hearst,\" said a company spokeswoman. Ms. Morrison left Marie Claire in April and was most recently freelancing at Gruner & Jahr USA Publishing\'s Family Circle. She formerly edited Fairchild Publications\' Bride\'s as well as the ill-fated shelter start-up One.

Steep ad declines
Ms. Kunes will remain with Hearst to work with its magazine development unit. Redbook has struggled this year, with ad pages falling 17.0% through June. For the last half of last year, newsstand sales sank 20.3%, which made it one of the worst performers in the women\'s-service niche. Redbook\'s circulation is 2.4 million.

In 2000, Ms. Kunes had been the founding editor of O, The Oprah Magazine, which Hearst owns 50% of, but resigned after only two issues. She took her current position at Redbook in 2001.
